QA about Joining the Last Laugh Ensemble

Auditions in 2025 are TBD, depending on our needs. But they will likely happen once a year in the summer or fall. Auditions will be posted on the website, so check back for updates as the year rolls on.

Obviously, everyone will have their own reasons for auditioning for Last Laugh Improv, but here are some reasons that might resonate you:

  • You're bored of doing short-form shows. Although short-form shows are a fun and accessible way to start improv, they offer diminishing returns to advanced improvisers. Last Laugh Improv is committed to providing show experiences that are more creatively satisfying than a short-form show while still being accessible and entertaining to audiences.
  • You love improvised scene-work. Last Laugh Improv isn't strictly a long- or short-form improv theater, but scene-work is the heart of our improvising. Because of that, we focus on formats and games that push characters and their stories to the forefront of the show.
  • You're passionate about improv. Most people do improv as a hobby, but a few of us feel drawn to it like it's our calling in life. Not everyone needs to feel this way to do good improv, but for those that feel it, you might wanna audition.
  • You'd like a bit more professionalism in your improv experience. Last Laugh Improv isn't a full-on professional ensemble yet, but if you're the kind of improviser that shows up, puts the audience first, and is serious about honing your craft, then this is the ensemble you're looking for.

The short answer is no. At the end of the day, Last Laugh Improv is concerned with results. If you have previous improv experience and perform with a degree of skill that shows that you're stage-ready, we'll take you serious as a candidate during auditions--whether you've taken Last Laugh Improv class or not.

However, we developed our performance class, Improv for Stage, to offer the ideal training for Last Laugh Improv shows, so taking this class will certainly provide candidates with an edge during the audition.

Our ensemble performs a variety of dynamic formats and games in the Last Laugh Improv showcase. You can explore our full repertoire here.
